Referral Criteria

BSS is designed to meet the needs of a specific population. Therefore, the candidate should be:

  • Male
  • Aged between 17 and 19 years
  • Not requiring specialist supervision that BSS is unable to provide.

When making a decision about a referral, staff expertise, resources, current house mix of young people and other relevant criteria as they may arise will be considered.

Candidates should be actively employed or in full-time education (or willing to work towards this) and have the potential / motivation to become independent.

Young people are asked to complete programmes designed to transfer the skills and information needed for independent living. As a result, applicants must show a willingness and ability to complete such programmes.

BSS provides a specialised service which aims to operate an equal opportunities policy for all current young people and future referrals. BSS does not accept emergency referrals.

Requests for information

Our statement of purpose and function, information on our referral policy / procedures and the availability of accommodation will be made available to potential referral agencies in response to referral enquiries.

Referrals are accepted from young males aged between 17 to 19 years old. They must be from Dublin North, Dublin North Central or Dublin North West and should have been through the care system or who have experience of homelessness. Social workers are encouraged to make contact with BSS to familiarise themselves with the service before then making a referral to the placement committee in their area if felt appropiate.

The placement committees are regularly updated as to the available beds in BSS. When a vacancy is available, referral information including a social report, care plan, aftercare plan and any other relevant reports are reviewed by the team at BSS. If it is felt appropriate the referral is proceeded with.
